SUMMARY:Gala Concert\, Vivaldi and Bach
DESCRIPTION:\nThe Gala Concert is central to our year of celebration. We’
 ve chosen to include two enduring favourites of the choral repertoire\, wh
 ich are both wonderful to perform and a special treat for any audience.\n\
 nThe concert opens with two relatively new works by composer Matthew Mart
 in\, beginning festivities\nwith settings of Laudate Dominum and Jubila
 te Deo. Celebratory music for the most celebratory of\noccasions. \n\nViv
 aldi’s Gloria is a timeless classic and features in the programme as a 
 chance to welcome many former members back to the choir to perform\, inclu
 ding former conductors of Southern Voices.\n\nJS Bach’s Magnificat (BWV
 243) is\, put simply\, one of the greatest compositions ever written. Comp
 osed in 1723\, it was his first major liturgical composition on a Latin te
 xt\, having just taken up the exalted position of Thomaskantor in Leipzig.
  It is scored for five vocal parts (SSATB) and Baroque orchestra that in
 cludes trumpets and timpani\; this has become one of the composer’s most
  popular vocal works.\n\nWe are thrilled to welcome Endelienta Baroque t
 o perform alongside Southern Voices for this concert.\n\nDirector: Jamal S
