Southern Voices, based in Winchester, is seeking sopranos, altos, tenors, and basses for a year's scholarship starting in September. Auditions will be held in July 2025.
The scholarship covers all expenses and is geared towards sixth formers, gap-year students, or recent graduates. It offers the chance to gain experience with a long-established choir, which could be beneficial for those considering further musical studies at university or in a cathedral setting. The choir's musical director, Jamal Sutton, provides coaching.
This year, two local sopranos have benefited from the scholarship, learning a wide variety of music, singing solos and duets, and taking part in services at Wells Cathedral. They have also performed in concerts and grown in confidence.
Applications can be made at southernvoices.co.uk/scholarship or via email at scholarship@southernvoices.co.uk.
Meanwhile, Southern Voices will host their summer concert, Canticles of Light, at St John’s Church, New Alresford, on Saturday, July 12. Tickets, priced at £18, are now available at southernvoices.co.uk/summer or by calling 0333 666 3366. The choir, a registered charity, continues to enrich the cultural scene, offering valuable opportunities for budding musicians.
